How do I use the Active Park Assist* feature in my Ford?
Active Park Assist aids you with parking your vehicle and backing your vehicle out of parking spaces. Learn how to use the Active Park Assist feature in your Ford with step-by-step instructions and helpful videos.
- Active Park Assist - Once the system locates a suitable parking space, you shift, accelerate, and brake while the system does the steering. It’s that simple.
- Enhanced Active Park Assist - If your vehicle is equipped with the available Enhanced Active Park Assist, you also get help getting out of a tight parallel parking spot, as well as assistance in reverse perpendicular parking.
- Active Park Assist 2.0 - With the available Active Park Assist 2.0, you can take the ease of this system a major step further. Just about every operation is now done for you. Pressing the Active Park Assist 2.0 button scans for a suitable parking spot. After stopping, you shift into Neutral, release the brake pedal, and hold down the Park Assist button. The system does the steering, shifting, braking, and accelerating.

Using Enhanced Active Park Assist
Select the Active Park Assist action you would like to complete from the drop-down options below for directions. Steps may vary based on the version of Active Park Assist your vehicle is equipped with.
Note: Refer to your Owner's Manual for more details specific to your vehicle.
Driving into a Parking Space (Parallel Park In)
--Enhanced Active Park Assist--
To parallel park with Enhanced Active Park Assist:
Press the Active Park Assist button
- Select parallel park. The system detects other vehicles and curbs to find a parking space.
Use the turn signal lever to search for a parking space on the driver or passenger side of your vehicle.
Note: The system defaults to searching for a parking spot on the passenger side of your vehicle if you do not use the turn signal lever.
- Drive your vehicle approximately 3 ft away from and parallel to the other parked vehicles when searching for a parking space. A tone sounds and a message appears on the touchscreen when Active Park Assist finds a parking space.
- Press and hold the brake pedal.
- Release the steering wheel and shift into reverse (R).
- Use the accelerator and brake to control your vehicle's speed when parking. You are responsible for stopping your vehicle.
- Follow the onscreen instructions until parking is complete. Active Park Assist is a multi-step process and requires you to shift the transmission multiple times.
Notes:
- You can slow down your vehicle at any time by pressing the brake pedal.
- When parallel parking between objects, the system will park closer to the object in front of your vehicle to allow easier access to the cargo area.
--Active Park Assist 2.0--
To parallel park with Active Park Assist 2.0:
- Press the Active Park Assist button.
- Press either the Active Park Assist button or the soft keys on the display screen to switch between Parallel Park In, Perpendicular Park In, or Parallel Park Out parking modes.
- Press the Active Park Assist button. By default, the system searches for parallel parking spaces on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Use the turn signal lever to search for a parking space on the driver or passenger side of your vehicle.
Note: The system defaults to searching for a parking spot on the passenger side of your vehicle if you do not use the turn signal lever.
- Drive your vehicle approximately 3 feet away from and parallel to the other parked vehicles when searching for a parking space. A tone sounds and a message appears on the screen when Active Park Assist finds a suitable parking space.
- Press and hold the brake pedal.
- Release the steering wheel and shift into Neutral (N).
- Press and hold the Active Park Assist button.
- Release the brake pedal to allow the vehicle to park.
- Use the accelerator and brake to control your vehicle's speed when parking.

Notes:
- You must take full control of your vehicle if the vehicle's speed exceeds approximately 6 mph, you interrupt the maneuver, or the system switches off.
- You can slow down the vehicle at any time by pressing the brake pedal.
--Active Park Assist--
To parallel park with Active Park Assist:
- Press the Active Park Assist button located on the center console.
- Use the turn signal to indicate which side the vehicle should search for a parking spot.
- Drive your vehicle approximately 3 ft away from and parallel to the other parked vehicles when searching for a parking space. The system will scan for available parking spots, and a chime will sound and a “Spot Found” message will appear on the touchscreen.
- Keep driving forward until the “Stop” message appears on the touchscreen. Once stopped, remove your hands from the steering wheel and shift into Reverse (R).
- Continue to follow the directions on the touchscreen to begin pulling into the parking spot. You will have to use the brake and accelerator pedals as needed Once finished, another chime will sound and an “Active Park Assist Finished” message will appear on the touchscreen.
Note: You can cancel the process at any time by taking hold of the steering wheel or by pressing the Active Park Assist button again
Driving into a Parking Space (Perpendicular Park In)
--Enhanced Active Park Assist--
To enter a perpendicular parking spot with Enhanced Active Park Assist:
Press the Active Park Assist button to bring up full-screen notifications.
- Press either the Active Park Assist button or the soft keys on the display screen to select perpendicular parking.
Use the turn signal lever to search for a parking space on the driver or passenger side of your vehicle.
Note: The system defaults to searching for a parking spot on the passenger side of your vehicle if you do not use the turn signal lever.
Drive your vehicle approximately 3 ft away from and perpendicular to the other parked vehicles when searching for a parking space. A tone sounds and a message appears in the information and entertainment display when Active Park Assist finds a parking space.
Note: Active Park Assist does not recognize parking space lines and centers your vehicle between objects. Active Park Assist backs your vehicle
into parking spaces.- Press and hold the brake pedal.
- Release the steering wheel and shift into reverse (R).
Use the accelerator and brake to control your vehicle's speed when parking. Follow the onscreen instructions until parking is completed. Active Park Assist is a multi-step process and requires you to shift the transmission multiple times.
Important: You are responsible for stopping your vehicle.
Notes:
- Active Park Assist aligns the front end of your vehicle with the lane side of the object next to it.
- When only one object is detected, the system allows enough distance to open the door on either side.
- You can slow down your vehicle at any time by pressing the brake pedal.
--Active Park Assist 2.0--
To enter a perpendicular parking spot with Active Park Assist 2.0:
- Press the Active Park Assist button to bring up full-screen notifications.
- Press either the Active Park Assist button or the soft keys on the display screen to select perpendicular parking.
- Press the Active Park Assist button.
Use the turn signal lever to search for a parking space on the driver or passenger side of your vehicle.
Note: The system defaults to searching for a parking spot on the passenger side of your vehicle if you do not use the turn signal lever.

Leaving a Parking Space (Parallel Park Out)
--Enhanced Active Park Assist--
To get out of a parallel parking spot with Enhanced Active Park Assist:
Press the Active Park Assist button.
- Select Parallel Park Exit.
- Use the turn signal to choose the direction to exit the parking space.
- Press and hold the brake pedal.
- Release the parking brake.
- Release the steering wheel and shift into the instructed gear.
- Use the accelerator and brake to control your vehicle's speed when exiting the parking space. You are responsible for stopping your vehicle.
- Follow the onscreen instructions until the operation is complete. Active Park Assist is a multi-step process and requires you to shift the transmission multiple times. After Active Park Assist drives your vehicle to a position where you can exit the parking space in a forward movement, a message appears instructing you to take full control of your vehicle.
Take control of your vehicle.
Important: You are responsible for controlling your vehicle and making sure the path is clear before pulling into traffic.
--Active Park Assist 2.0--
To get out of a parallel parking spot with Active Park Assist 2.0:
- Press the Active Park Assist button.
- Use the turn signal to select which side of your vehicle you want to exit the parking space.
- Press and hold the brake pedal.
- Release the steering wheel and shift into Neutral (N).
- Release the parking brake.
- Press and hold the Active Park Assist button until you have exited the parking space.
Release the brake pedal to allow the vehicle to move. After the system drives the vehicle to a position where the parking space can be exited in a forward movement, a message appears instructing you to take full control of the vehicle.
Important: You are responsible for controlling your vehicle and making sure the path is clear before pulling into traffic.
Note: You can slow down the vehicle at any time by pressing the brake pedal.
--Active Park Assist -- This action is not available.
Pausing Active Park Assist
Enhanced Active Park Assist, Active Park Assist 2.0, and Active Park Assist
To pause parking assistance at any time, release the Active Park Assist button. The vehicle stops moving until the Active Park Assist button is pushed again and held down.
Note: If the passenger or rear doors are opened, the parking assistance also pauses.
Canceling Active Park Assist
--Active Park Assist and Enhanced Active Park Assist--
To cancel parking assistance at any time:
Press the Active Park Assist button during operation.
- Grab the steering wheel during operation.
- Drive above 22 mph (35 km/h) for a short period when searching for a parking space.
- Drive above 6 mph (9 km/h) during operation.
- Switch the traction control off.
Certain vehicle conditions may also deactivate the system, for example:
- The traction control system activates or fails.
- The anti-lock brake system activates or fails.

To cancel parking assistance at any time, shift out of Neutral (N).
Note: If you turn the steering wheel or open the driver's door, the parking assistance also cancels.
