What the Pro Trailer Hitch Assist Feature Does to Your Vehicle

The Pro Trailer Hitch Assist feature works by controlling the steering, brake, and engine throttle after you press the Pro Trailer button on your truck instrument panel. Once the automated maneuver is complete, all that is left for the driver to do is lower the trailer onto the hitch ball and make necessary trailer electrical and safety chain connections.

Where You Can Find the Pro Trailer Hitch Assist Feature in Your Vehicle

Activate this enhanced feature by pressing the Pro Trailer button on your F-150 truck instrument panel. This prompts an initial message to display on your center touchscreen,** asking you whether a trailer is connected. Selecting No then starts the Pro Trailer Hitch Assist feature maneuver.

You can find more details about this latest software update series on your in-vehicle touchscreen by selecting Settings > Software Update. You can also find details in your FordPass App account under Vehicle > Features & Settings > Software Updates. Please note availability of the software update series and features varies by model and is subject to change.

When You Should Use the Pro Trailer Hitch Assist Feature

Use this Pro Trailer Hitch Assist feature anytime you want to connect your F-150 truck trailer hitch to a trailer more efficiently and conveniently, with its automated sensing technology. Once you’ve activated it and started the process using the Pro Trailer button on your vehicle instrument panel, just continue to follow the prompts on your truck-center touchscreen display. First, manually maneuver into an acceptable hitching zone as prompted by your vehicle touchscreen. You’ll then need to identify the trailer you want to connect to your truck’s trailer hitch. Then, press and hold the Pro Trailer button to automatically align the hitch ball on your truck to the trailer coupler. Your vehicle sensing technology then automatically plans a path to the trailer coupler location, and your truck completes its alignment maneuver. Your truck will stop when the hitch ball is aligned under the trailer coupler.
