Some applications need more low-end muscle for heavy hauling. Others call for balanced overall performance on the highway. Because your vocation has specific power requirements, we offer two engine choices in our E-Series Cutaway models. The standard 6.8L Triton® V10 delivers 305 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of best-in-class torque.* And the available 6.2L flex-fuel V8 rated at 331 horsepower and 356 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines are teamed with the proven, durable Ford-built TorqShift® 6-speed automatic transmission.

The standard 6.8L Triton V10 in the 2018 E-Series Cutaway

6.8L Triton® V10

Featuring a brawny 305 horsepower and best-in-class* gas torque of 420 lb.-ft., the standard Ford-built 6.8L Triton® V10 is engineered to generate the raw power required for the heavy-duty hauling and towing applications typical of Class 3–4 cutaway chassis. The 6.8L V10 is coupled with the TorqShift® 6-speed automatic transmission, also Ford-built, which includes a selectable tow/haul mode that automatically compensates for altitude, grade and load conditions.

The available 6.2L V8 in the 2018 E-Series Cutaway

6.2L FFV V8

The available 6.2L flex-fuel V8 offers years of proven performance on tough F-Series Super Duty® jobs. Rated at 331 horsepower and 356 lb.-ft. of torque, the 6.2L features single overhead-cam design and dual-equal variable-cam timing — features that optimize power across the entire power band. Available is the CNG/Propane Gaseous Engine Prep Package* that converts fuel type from conventional unleaded gasoline to compressed natural gas or liquefied propane autogas.
*Vehicle will be equipped with the standard factory gasoline fuel system. This package does not include CNG/Propane autogas fuel tanks and lines, which are sold separately. See your dealer for details.

Six-speed TorqShift® Automatic with Overdrive

The TorqShift® 6-speed automatic transmission is designed and built by Ford to handle the high-performance demands of the standard 6.8L Triton® V10 (305 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. torque) and the available 6.2L flex-fuel V8 (331 horsepower and 356 lb.-ft. or torque). The TorqShift has Tow/Haul mode. On an uphill, it selects the gear that minimizes gear hunting; on a downhill, it prevents upshifting and increase in speed, reducing reliance on brake pressure to slow down.

Advanced Fuel Options

A CNG/Propane Gaseous Engine Prep Package* is available that allows the standard 6.8L Triton® V10 and the available 6.2L flex-fuel V8 to run on advanced fuels — compressed natural gas or liquefied propane autogas — in lieu of conventional unleaded gasoline.
*Vehicle will be equipped with the standard factory gasoline fuel system. This package does not include CNG/Propane autogas fuel tanks and lines, which are sold separately. See your dealer for details.

Alternators for normal or heavy-duty application in the 2018 E-Series Cutaway

Heavy-Duty Alternators

The standard 155-amp alternator (6.8L V10) and 150-amp alternator (6.2L V8) provide plenty of capacity for normal duty. For more demanding application, optional extra heavy-duty 225-amp alternator (for the 6.8L V10; included in the Ambulance Prep Package) and extra-heavy-duty 240-amp alternator (for the 6.2L V8) are available.
