Building on 10 years of experience with hybrid technologies in vehicles such as the Escape Hybrid and more recently the Fusion Hybrid, Ford is committed to becoming a world leader in rechargeable electric vehicle technology. The new Focus Electric is the first all-electric passenger vehicle from Ford. It runs exclusively on a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery system, which means you'll never need a drop of gas again.
You're committed to doing what you can to lessen your impact on the planet. And Ford is committed to creating the electric vehicles that will give you an effective way to do that - without having to sacrifice convenience or performance.
Energy companies are working to build more efficient plants and generate more power from renewable energy sources. This is making an electric vehicle an increasingly attractive option for everyone who wants to reduce their carbon footprint.

| Q. | What kind of battery is used in an electric vehicle? |
| A. | It depends on the vehicle. The current generation of Ford hybrid vehicles use nickel-metal-hydride batteries. Ford will use lithium-ion batteries in third-generation hybrids as well as in plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles. |
| Q. | How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle? |
| A. | For a hybrid electric vehicle, you never have to worry about charging the battery. The gas engine and the braking system charge the battery as you drive. The estimated time for charging an all-electric vehicle is expected to be 20 hours when using a 120-volt outlet and five hours when using a 240-volt outlet upgraded with electric vehicle supply equipment. For the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, estimated charging time is expected to be eight hours with a 120-volt outlet and 5 hours with a 240-volt outlet upgraded with electric vehicle supply equipment. |
| Q. | Can I just plug an electric vehicle into the outlet in my garage? |
| A. | Electric Vehicles will be able to be plugged into a standard household 120-volt outlet or into a 240-volt outlet upgraded with electric vehicle supply equipment, which must be installed by a licensed electrician. |
| Q. | What is a hybrid vehicle? |
| A. | A hybrid electric vehicle is a combination of a gasoline engine and an electric motor powered by a rechargeable, high-voltage battery. |
| Q. | What is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle? |
| A. | The battery of a Ford hybrid vehicle is charged by the engine and the Regenerative Braking System. What makes a Ford plug-in hybrid electric vehicle different is that it has an additional means of charging the battery - by drawing power from the local electrical grid. |
| Q. | What is an all-electric vehicle? |
| A. | An all-electric vehicle is powered solely by an electric motor, which gets its energy from a rechargeable, high-voltage battery. |
| Q. | What styles do hybrid electric vehicles come in? |
| A. | Ford hybrid electric vehicles are currently available as either a sedan or an SUV. |
| Q. | What is the future of electric vehicles? |
| A. | The future is bright for electric vehicles. Battery technology is improving every day. And the public and private sectors are exploring ways to develop the infrastructure that will be necessary to enable electric vehicles to be recharged in many locations, not just the home. |
| Q. | Are hybrid electric vehicles really cleaner? |
| A. | Ford hybrid electric vehicles produce fewer CO2 emissions than comparable non-hybrid vehicles. |
| Q. | Are hybrid electric vehicles too slow to travel on the highway? |
| A. | In addition to an electric motor, Ford hybrid electric vehicles have a gasoline engine, which provides all the power and performance of a conventional gasoline vehicle. |
| Q. | Are hybrid electric vehicles just for city driving? |
| A. | Because they feature both a gasoline engine and an electric motor, Ford hybrid electric vehicles deliver fuel-efficient performance in both city and highway driving. The all-electric vehicle is being designed to be an ideal city/commuter vehicle, targeted to deliver up to 100 miles of all-electric driving power on a single charge. |
