Ford Lowers Fuel Economy Ratings for Certain Vehicles

Ford identified an error with fuel economy ratings for certain vehicles through its internal testing and notified the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Ford worked with the EPA as the agency retested the vehicles, which resulted in lower fuel economy ratings for Ford's 2013- and 2014-model year hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, as well as most 2014-model year Fiestas. You can view your vehicle's correct EPA-estimated rating below.

We value you as a customer, and we want to continue to earn your trust. As a measure of goodwill, we would like to pay you for the estimated average fuel cost difference between the current combined miles-per-gallon estimate for your vehicle and the combined MPG estimate on the new label.

EPA's standardized test enables consumers to make 'apples-to-apples' comparisons of mileage among different car models.
  • What are you doing for customers?
    We apologize to our customers and affected owners will receive a goodwill payment for the difference between the prior and new combined fuel economy ratings.
  • How does the goodwill payment work?
    Ford will provide a goodwill payment to retail customers who purchased or leased the affected vehicles. The amounts are based on the difference in the combined fuel economy ratings, estimated average annual mileage, estimated average fuel prices, and estimated average length of contract.
  • Will I get a goodwill payment if I already sold my car?
    Yes. We intend to provide goodwill payments to current and previous owners of the six affected vehicles.
  • When will I receive my check?
    We will start issuing goodwill payments at the end of June and we anticipate all checks will be received by the end of September.
  • Do I need to do anything in order to get my payment?
    We will be mailing the goodwill payment to you. No action is needed on your part.
  • If my car isn't listed in the calculator, does that mean I am not eligible for a check?
    If you do not see your vehicle named, it is not one of the affected vehicles eligible for a customer goodwill payment.
