How do you get the best fuel economy possible for your commercial vehicle?
Don't buy gas. Ford is helping make electric vehicles viable for the American
consumer. In collaboration with Azure Dynamics, Ford will supply the Transit
Connect Electric Cargo Van in North America and Europe. Ford also plans to introduce
five new electrified vehicles
in North America by 2012.
Sustainable Design and Renewable Materials
Ford uses recycled materials in several vehicles. It’s our way of making the world we live in a little cleaner and greener.
- Ford Motor Company was the first vehicle manufacturer to use soy-based foam seat cushions and seat backs in its vehicles.
- The soy-based foam used in the seat cushions and seat backs is equivalent in comfort and durability to non-soy-based foam seat cushions and seat backs.
- Soy-based foam seat cushions and seat backs create less environmental impact than petroleum-based foam products.
- The production of soy-based foam uses less energy and produces less greenhouse gas (CO2) than the production of petroleum-based foams.
- The environmental benefit of soy begins while the plant is still in the ground where it removes CO2 from the atmosphere.
- It is estimated that more than one million Ford Motor Company vehicles built each year will have soy-based foam seat cushions and seat backs.
- With soy-based foam in seats on one million vehicles, Ford expects to decrease its use of petroleum oil by one million pounds and reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 5.5 million pounds annually.
- The 2011 Ford Explorer cloth seats utilize postindustrial yarns in their seat fabrics, which help reduce demand on energy and natural resources.
- The seat fabrics used in the base model 2011 Ford Explorer contain 27 percent postindustrial yarns in the seat insert and 30 percent postindustrial yarns in the seat bolster.
- The seat fabrics used in the 2011 Ford Explorer XLT contain 25 percent postindustrial yarns in the seat insert and 30 percent postindustrial yarns in the seat bolster.
Green Manufacturing
Ford is focused on making processes as green and environmentally conscious as possible.
Ford takes several things into consideration: production efficiency, environmental
footprint, use of renewable energy, sustainable resources and sustainable design.
Ford does this because it is the right thing to do for the planet and our customers.
What others have to say about the eco-friendly manufacturing plants and green processes at Ford:
-
"Ford’s approach underscores the kind of thinking that should go into green
manufacturing, including the need to find a use for everything, avoid the
waste involved in packaging and minimizing shipping costs."
