Update: Ford Explorer Class Action Settlement

An updated communication has been released regarding the Class Action Settlement on 1991-2001 MY Explorers in the states of CA, IL, TX and CT.

Update:
A toll-free number, 1-866-833-7918, has been established in the case, along with a website, www.ExplorerClaims.com, where notices, a claim form, and the settlement agreement may be obtained. Those affected may also write to Ford Explorer Settlement, PO Box 4850, Portland, OR 97208.

Background:
A class action lawsuit was filed against Ford on behalf of all California persons and entities who bought, owned or leased new or used 1991-2001 model year Explorers. Plaintiffs allege that Ford violated California’s Unfair Competition Law by concealing an alleged tendency to roll over in all 1991-2001 Ford Explorers. Plaintiffs are claiming their vehicles lost value when this alleged tendency became public after the recall of Firestone tires in August 2000.

Ford has shown that the Explorer is safe, that there was no new information about rollovers in 2000 and there was no drop in resale values.

The settlement that was approved by the court on Tuesday, April 15th provides discount certificates worth $500 toward the purchase or lease of a new Ford Explorer or $300 toward the purchase or lease of any other new Ford, Lincoln, or Mercury. Certificates will be valid for 12 months from the date issued. The certificates can be used in conjunction with other Ford offers and incentives, but only one certificate can be used at a time. Certificates must be applied for by April 29, 2008, and the certificates will arrive this summer. Consumers must have the certificate in hand to use the discount.
